Although my tastes in perfume changed dramatically through the years, I always stayed away from the ouds. They were always a synonym for something heavy and suffocating, something too masculine and simply “too much”.

Diptyque is one of my favorite brands, so I never miss their new launches. When I got to know about their newest perfume, I literally rushed to the shop to try it out.

Diptyque Oud Palao

Diptyque Oud Palao starts with a strong but perfectly balanced blend of Laotian oud, dessert rum and incense. As time goes by, oud gets blurred and almost fades away, the fragrance becomes sweeter and softer and finally (in about six hours) leaves you with a gentle yet intoxicating boudoir aftertaste of vanilla and dried tobacco leaves.

Jazz club. Late night but not morning yet, all the songs are sung and glasses are almost empty. Bartender is wiping small wooden tables and moving chairs, and you’re still smiling to that velvet voice of the Lady-who’s-singing-the-blues, and know that the perfect moment is so fragile and transient. It’s closing time, you have to go soon. But you are happy as never before. Now. And it’s all that matters.

Diptyque Oud Palao is created by perfumers Fabrice Pellegrin and Myriam Badault and appeared in shops in the very beginning of October 2015. It’s claimed to be unisex, but I am against the idea of gender division of perfumes. Just wear what you like really.
Diptyque Oud Palao is available in 75 ml Eau de Parfum. Diptyque also has that gorgeous gift set pictured above: a full sized Oud Palao perfume and a large Oud candle. Is it Christmas yet?
